THe Haunted Mansion Hits the Malls
DoomBuggies Explores the Haunted Mansion 3-D "Ghost Vision" Tour
In Fall of 2003, Disney sent a touring exhibit through the country to stop at eight different shopping malls in support of the Haunted Mansion film. The exhibit featured various recreated scenes from the movie, and some original props and costumes were on display. Dubbing the tour a "Ghost Vision" experience, guests were given special glasses that would transform the spectrum of colors used in some of the exhibits into apparent three-dimensional space (by using prisms to give each eye slightly different information.)

was thrilled when Disney approved our concept of a '3-D GhostVision Tour,'
" said Eddie Newquist, Creative Studio President for the BECKER Group,
the agency responsible for the development of the mall tour. " My first
theme park visit was Disney World 1972 and the Haunted Mansion. It changed
my life... and I went on to work as a Project Manager for the opening of
Universal Studios Florida on 'King Kong'" and 'Jaws' and the 'Horror
Make-up Show,' where I first worked with Rick Baker. I later became the
VP of Creative for Universal Studios in Los Angeles. "
When approaching the display, attendees could view tombstones from the graveyard in the film, as well as various costumes and one of Rick Baker's Zombies which was used in the film. Inside the exhibit, guests could see various images that also graced the walls of the set, with exagerated colors to create the 3-D effects.
